Shipyard Safety — OSHA-10 Training
10-hour credentialed course for crews working in shipyards.
SailSafe is offering, at no cost, OSHA-10 SHIPYARD credentialed training to passenger vessel operators.
You’re likely aware that the US Coast Guard has primary regulatory authority over vessel operations and safety through the Marine Safety Manual. Land-based industrial safety standards — administered by OSHA — do not apply to maritime workers covered by Jones Act. There is, however, detailed guidance available for Shipbuilding and Repair worker safety, including HazMat handling, confined space entry, walking surface/scaffolding, and many other topics. Basic training in these standards for you and your crew will greatly enhance everyone’s safety while your vessel is dockside.
Ensure the safety of you and your crew while dockside or in a shipyard.
Topics Covered in Training
This free 10-hour training presents common safety concerns and best practices for shipyard workers. You and your crew will learn how to bridge the gap between traditional USCG requirements and OSHA requirements. Learn how to navigate the land-based workspace of shipyards, including equipment safety, personal protection, and materials handling. Presented in a no-pressure environment, this training will keep everyone safe during land-based work.

A Note of Appreciation:
If you’re signing on for this important training, you are honoring the memory of our daughter and sister Rebecca Lockwood Hadik (Master USCG 200T), who was gravely injured and died as a result of a shipyard accident during down-rigging.
Our family is providing this training at no cost to you. We only ask that you respect the obligation to attend both days of your selected session and complete the course. Please contact me right away if any conflict arises within 3 days ahead of the training so we can try to reassign your place to another sailor on our wait-list.
If ever you have doubts or concerns for yourself or your crew’s safety, never be afraid to respectfully speak with your captain or to responsible shipyard personnel.
Always feel free to contact me at any time now or in the future. We want you to feel welcome in our love for sail training and the advancement of all mariner’s skills.
Sincerely,
Steve Hadik , Ann Gold, Alexander Hadik
